Worshipping a pagan king was unthinkable for Daniel the Hebrew, but the penalty for disobedience was being thrown to the lions!

Young Daniel was torn from his home in Judah by the conquering King Nebuchadnezzar and spent the rest of his life in Babylon serving a succession of ungodly kings. He determined not to break any of the Hebrew laws concerning the food he ate or whom he worshipped. This put him in the firing line when he refused to worship King Darius. He continued to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob openly, in defiance of the King's decree.
